About

Daniel is an environmental writer whose work is driven by curiosity and a passion for stories that reveal the often hidden connections between people, places, and systems. He is currently finishing a book for Island Press about water in Nevada, the nation’s driest state.

Daniel was previously based in Reno, where he reported for The Nevada Independent. While at The Nevada Independent, his work was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, Best of the West, and the Society of Environmental Journalists. His reporting on water has appeared in The New York Times, Vox, Smithsonian, and Inside Climate News.

Daniel is particularly focused on writing about and researching groundwater management frameworks and water rights across the Western U.S. and in arid regions. He writes regularly about these and other issues in a Substack newsletter called Invisible Waters.

He is based in Davis, Calif., where he is working toward a master’s degree focused on water policy. When he is not working, he enjoys anything involving rivers, oceans, hiking, coffee, and cooking. If you have ideas for stories or potential collaborations, email Daniel to get in touch.
