About

My work is driven by curiosity and passion for telling stories that reveal the connections between people, places, and the systems. Growing up in Southern California, I had little knowledge about where my water came from and the costs of getting it there. Through my work, I aim to increase awareness and understanding about the complex past and present relationships communities have with water and the environment in the American West.

Water belongs to the public, and access to clean drinking water is a human right. Everyone deserves clear information about the invisible connections that sustain and shape our world. By taking a multidisciplinary approach that draws on policy, history, science, and the law, my goal is to bring transparency, context, depth and perspective to the topics I write about.

For six years, I was based in Reno, Nev., where I reported for The Nevada Independent. While at The Nevada Independent, my work was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, Best of the West and the Society of Environmental Journalists. I also served on the board of the Nevada Press Association, working to advocate on behalf of outlets across the state.

My reporting has appeared in ProPublica, Vox, The New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, InsideClimateNews, Sierra Magazine, and High Country News. I write a Substack newsletter.  As a researcher and writer, I am drawn to stories, analysis, and scientific papers that reveal invisible systems. Because of that, groundwater is a particular focus of my work.

I am currently based in Davis, Calif., where I am working toward a master’s in environmental policy and management. When I’m not working and writing, I enjoy anything that involves rivers, oceans, hiking, coffee, cooking and baking.

I’m always open to new ideas and collaboration. Email me to get in touch.
